Alex Chalmers Interview

Some of your income is from doing stunt work in movies and commercial, what are your best and worst experiences?
My worst experience was doing an ad campaign for Airwalk shoes. It was in RollingStone, Details and billboards everywhere. It was big!. For the work I did, I should have received over 50.000.000 but I walked away with a little over 3000.000. They found some loophole, which put more money in their pockets. I didn't have an agent and at the time I didn't care. My best experience is every time I get a check in the mail. I'm in the stunt union and I have an agent now, so It's all-good. I've also gotten to work with people like Tom Green. Last month I got lit on fire for a snowboard movie coming out next year.

You're in video's, mags and you've been doing good in pro contest for the last two years, but no pro model or even ads from your board sponsor. How do you feel about this or is it your choice?
I do get support and pay from other sponsors like Etnies, Quicksiver and Dragon. They help me travel and keep my fridge full of Coca-Cola. Having a pro model is such a minimal thing these days.

Many people think a board with your name on it is a major component to elevating your pro satus.
I'm supposedely getting a model after the Flip video comes out this fall. But I want to be accepted by my peers and by myself. When the time comes, I want it to be more then just a formality. I've had many companies over the years offer me models but thats not my style. When Jeremy Fox and the crew at Flip decide its time then it will be time. I'm in no hurry. I want to be remembered by more then just some wodd with my name on it.

What's a good day for Alex?
It's what it should be, hitting parks, going to shoot photos or filming, its all good. Or even just cruzing with your buddies to a shitty little park out in the country. As long as your having fun. But you don't have to skate all day. Come home, have a barbecue, go golfing or go to the beach and go swimming. For some people it's just skate.. skate.. skate. I try to enjoy diferent rhings which in turn helps me enjoy skating even more.

Any last words?
Ummm... don't be scared of what people think of your skating. Just skate what you wanna skate and have fun with your board. Freeks and geeks rule the world.
