Top Pros Battle It Out in Copenhagen

DVS’ 2nd annual CPH Pro went down this weekend at the Copenhagen Skatepark in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. For local Danes, international travelers, and the loads of pro skateboarders who made the trip across the pond the contest provided an amazing venue for world-class skateboarding and industry comradery. “The CPH Pro is quickly establishing itself as one of Europe’s premiere skateboarding events, says DVS Skate Team Manager Gabe Clement. “This year’s event was bigger and better than last year’s with more pros, higher attendance, and a higher caliber of skating. This is definitely the contest to be at for 2009.”

Unlike many European pro contests that typically host well over a hundred pros, the SpoTlight Productions crew intentionally kept the heat sheets limited to the best pro skateboarders in attendance. The judges narrowed it down to just over 30 contenders who were split into four main heats.

The newly designed street course saw pros, Eric Koston, Terry Kennedy, Brad Staba, Paul Shier, Kerry Getz, John Rattray, Jereme Rogers, Lewis Marnell, Rob Gonzales, Jani Laitiala, as well as many other A-list rippers. Everyone skated hard, but when the smoke finally cleared it was Blind Pro Danny Cerezini who claimed victory as well as the ten thousand dollar check that was up for grabs. Brazil’s Diego Oliveira and Finland’s Eero Antilla came in at a close second and third respectively.

The vert contest, according to SPoT Light Productions’ Ryan Clements, was also a top attraction. “Honestly, the Vert was definitely a highlight of the weekend,” says Clements. “Not only was the skating stellar, but the layout of Copenhagen Skatepark allows for some amazing viewing from different levels, so there are literally spectators everywhere, from the floor to ceiling. Add in 2000 free beers and you’ve got pretty much the best crowd that anyone could ask for.”

When all was said and done, Billabong Pro Renton Millar skated hard to victory and took home $5,000.00 for his efforts on the vert ramp. For full contest results, photos, and video of the DVS’ 2nd annual CPH Pro please visit www.dvsskate.com/cphpro or log on to www.tackyworld.com
