MJ, Farrah Fawcett and GSD in NY…

Posted by John Bradford

Yesterday was a harsh one in LA as far as celebrities were concerned. Farrah Fawcet died of cancer in the morning, Michael Jackson died of cartiac arrest in the afternoon (in case the 24 hour news coverage from every TV channel didn’t clue you in on it…).

Farrah evidently inspired certain females to skateboard if you can believe it. A photo from the 70’s shows her skateboarding and when girls saw it, they all ran out to get their own. There is a call to remember her on New York’s Go Skateboarding Day this weekend (postponed by rain last week). You can read all about it HERE.

As for Michael Jackson, maybe you have to be approaching your 30’s to fully appreciate him musically, but last night I was at the bar and heard someone say “I think I became an adult today when Michael Jackson died… Its like childhood died”… that pretty much summed it up from my perspective. Music is an integral part of my life, and the album Thriller was the first piece of music I ever owned. Say what you want about his life, but without him Guys part in Video Days wouldn’t have sounded half as cool. Again, you might be too young to appreciate that…

You’ll have to press play on both of these at the same time to get the full effect (youtube disabled the audio on the first one because of how rad it was):

So, I guess this post is to say R.I.P. to two icons. Not directly involved with skateboarding but who touched them non the less through their sheer star power…
