Marc McKee’s Book Launch
Words & Photos: Seb Carayol
Today’s skateboard graphics miss a few things: penises, condom instruction manuals, Scientology books’ cover knockoffs, a little simulated racism to piss off the wrong people… That’s why LA’s most droorstalgic crowds gathered en masse on Saturday night to Melrose/Fairfax HVW8 gallery.
Cupcakes and Colt-45-based energy drinks aside, they all were delighted by a giant Jesus portrait (Remember that Gabriel Rodriguez board?) outside and wall-to-wall artwork that Marc has done for World Industries/Blind/Big Brother/sometimes Hustler. The event itself doubled as McKee’s launch for the much sought-after retrospective “Seen/Unknown” book that Winston Tseng (enjoi) helped him compile.
In awe about the whole ordeal were Jeff Tremaine, Rick Kosick, Bod Boyle, Dimitri and even Ben Harper and son. The show is still up at HVW8 until April 10th. And besides the book, HVW8 also sells limited editions t’s, giclée prnts of marc’s original artwork and other goodies…
