Staff Pick: Adidas Ronan, Dark Cinder/Black

Pick by: Chris Bywater (Art Director)

I have rocked Adidas Gazelles and I skated a pair of the Busenitz pros, both of which are really nice shoes. When I first saw the Ronan, I thought it looked like the perfect combo of those two shoes. It has the classic Gazelle look with the Busenitz-type sole, sort of clean and tech at the same time. It incorporates some good “lace saving” recessed eyelets as well as a sort of ollie guard. The Geo-fit collar lining is effective, although it feels a little strange initially. After about 5 minutes of skating these shoes, I was impressed with the heel lock-down the collar provides. Overall I’d say these shoes take the least amount of break-in/getting-use-to-time of anything I’ve skated in a long while. I know that saying “it skates right out of the box!” is the trendy selling feature these days, but these shoes really do. Maybe I’m lucky and the Adidas moulds match my feet better than most. These Ronans look, fit and feel great and have excellent board feel. The only problem is they look so good I don’t really want to destroy them and the skate so well, I really want to skate them. This is one heck of white-person-problem!
