The Bricks is co-owned by Skatepark of Tampa’s Brian Schaeffer along with some friends. After years of sending business all over the city from hosting events at the Skatepark, Schaeffer decided to open up a spot of his own and like anything the SPoT dudes do, he did it right. The Bricks will be open till 3am the whole weekend.
Be sure to end up there more than a few times for more than a few drinks and meals as well as the after party on Thursday following the all day fishing contest, the Gratitude art show where Artists paint their respects to recreate pro deck graphics, and after party on Sunday starting at 8 hosted by Pat Duffy featuring guest bartender Fred Gall. Sunday is not one to be missed.
1518 East 7th Avenue
Great dive bar and supporter of SPoT right on the strip. They’ve got $1.50 PBR tall boy specials and Red Bull drink specials all week with a plastic Skatepark wristband. Open 7pm-3am.
Apparently on Fridays for $7 or free for guest list before 11pm, Czar Bar hosts TGIF with Filthy Richard, boasting it as the “Filthiest Party in Town.” With a double dollar “Rich Bitch” hour from 10-11pm, this might be a good spot if you’re looking for women with lowered standards.
On Saturday, the cover is free with a VIP plastic wristband from the Pro. According to their site, there’s free draft and $2 drinks until midnight. Saturday also hosts “The People’s Party” with a bunch of DJs and drink specials.
New York New York Pizza
1512 E 7th Ave
Schaeffer calls it the “Best slice in Ybor.” They’re open till 3am so that’s a huge plus as well. Hard to go wrong with pizza, and eating there before or after you’ve overindulged elsewhere might just save your ass some torment the morning after. The slices are big and tasty.
Brocato’s Sandwich Shop
5021 E Columbus D, Tampa, FL
Being in Florida means that there’s some great Cuban food to be found. Such is the case with Brocato’s. When we were talking about our plans while in Tampa our publisher demanded we all go there at some point, and so far he’s never steered us wrong in the food department. Get a Cuban sandwich, press. Get anything and you’ll be all right.
