Today the news came over the wire that Rob Dyrdek has officially purchased Alien Workshop, Habitat Skateboards, and Reflex Bearings from Burton Snowboards. Rob made the announcement a few months back, perhaps caught up in the energy of the Zumiez 100k event, but until now nothing had been made official until today.
Dylan has an interview in Monster Children’s latest issue and is already talking about being excited about the purchase and overall the murmurings from fellow teammates has been positive. It’s hard to bag on a guy who’s stuck with a company literally since it began wanting to be a bigger part of the brand and helping to secure its future. Below is the press release:
Rob Dyrdek Acquires DNA Distribution from Burton
Los Angeles, CA – April 17, 2012 – 20 year skateboarding veteran, television star and entrepreneur, Rob Dyrdek announced today that he has acquired DNA Distribution which includes skateboarding brands Alien Workshop, Habitat and Reflex, from Burton.
The combination of Dyrdek’s brand loyalty and financial strength, with the unparalleled design and quality of DNA’s skateboarding products, will enhance the brands ability to participate more aggressively in the growing skateboard industry.
Confirming the previous purchase buzz, Dyrdek has been in discussion with Burton and DNA Distribution throughout the last year. “It’s hard to put into words what an amazing opportunity this is for me. I am extremely proud to now own the company that first sponsored me 20 years ago,” stated Dyrdek, President of Dyrdek Enterprises. “DNA has truly amazing brands that have incredible growth potential, and I look forward to helping guide these brands over the next 20 years.”
“It’s been an honor to call DNA part of the Burton family for the past four years,” stated Jake Burton, Founder and CEO of Burton Snowboards. “And as we look to the future, I have no doubt that DNA is in extremely good hands given Rob’s history with the brands and the sport. On behalf of everyone at Burton, we wish them all the best.”
“We look forward for what’s to come with Rob and DNA,” said Chris Carter, General Manager and Co-Founder of DNA. “Rob has shown his dedication for the past 20 years and we are excited to continue to build the brands.” Carter will continue to oversee DNA Distribution in Dayton, Ohio, while Dyrdek will consult directly on all marketing and creative from his Los Angeles based office.
In conjunction with the purchase announcement, “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory” will wrap up its fifth season on Monday April 23rd, 2012 at 10/9c on MTV with a finale episode featuring a comedic look at Rob purchasing the Alien Workshop and finding out that he in fact, actually has real alien DNA.

Alien Workshop just came out with their XRay series that features some new construction as well as glow in the dark ink. Check out this sick little commercial with Tyler Bledsoe.
About the series from Alien Workshop:
The XRAY series features a revised version of our original Hexmark™ construction. For this series, the Hexmark™ pattern is pressed into the bottom veneer on the nose and tail areas only. The raised pattern has less surface area and therefore less friction for nose and tail slide tricks. The pattern tapers right before the truck holes and makes for a flat mounting area for the trucks. This series also features glow in the dark ink to give a unique backlit effect for the XRAY graphic.
